Summary: The love is unspoken, but he has to say something.

The bar was noisy and crowded, a Times Square tourist trap, full of frat boys and matinee-goers, but as far as Jack was concerned, there was no one in the world but him and Gwen.

He had so much to say, starting with “I’m sorry.”

“What on earth for?”

“For the potassium.”

She blinked in confusion.

“I tweaked the retcon formula to replenish the electrolytes. I think that’s why it didn’t work on you. You could have had a normal life.”

“Oh Jack,” she smiled, reminding Jack exactly what he’d come back for, and raised her glass.

“Here’s to potassium.”

I guess you could have gone with potassium cyanide, which would have made for a very different story D: I like the sweet one you came up with.

Yeah, that would have been a VERY different story. Glad you liked this one though. I think it fits in with Jack's general attitude toward Gwen and what he and Torchwood had done to her.

Oooh, fantastic! I love their dynamic here -- just right.

If Gwen overcame the retcon as a result of the retcon itself and not because of some inherent toughness and curiosity she possessed... well, I guess it doesn't matter in the end because she *did* have what it takes to be a Torchwood agent, but it would be kind of an interesting slant on Jack's recruitment, since I've always assumed that was part of what impressed him.

Well I think "that is kind of a tragedy" was a heart-felt sentiment, so anything that gave him a chance to get her back in fold would be welcome, even if it was his own doing.

Trust me, this wasn't the easiest prompt to work with. :)

Sorry, I didn't mean it as a criticism at all! I was just exploring the implications to my own interpretation of the text. I *love* what you did with the prompt.

(I'm sorry! Somehow in my twisted brain potassium had more potential than any of the "k" words I could think of...)

Not taken as a criticism as all! (And I do mean it when I say "comments and concrit welcome," so feel free to jump on it when necessary.) There's definitely a lot of ambiguity there, as I think there has been with Jack/Gwen from the beginning. In fact, there's so much of initial pub scene where Jack and Gwen are SAYING one thing, but John and Eve seem to be playing something entirely different.

What you're doing with the prompts is awesome! I appreciate the challenges, even some one beat me to the obligatory banana.
