Friday night-Columbo episodes, including episodes featuring Laurence Harvey and Martin Landau. Both playing smug snake type killers, but I love Laurence so I was kind of rooting for him. To no avail, of course. The Martin Landau episode also had the fabulous Julie Newmar, playing a sort of hippy dippy 70's LA type who appeared to be stoned in most of her scenes.

Brunch at Mozzeria. I really need to give up the Eggs Benedict although it is the most insidious thing ever.

Movie-Jiro Dreams of Sushi.
Awesome documentary in Japanese with subtitles and score including Phillip Glass pieces. Basically 90 minutes of Sushi Porn! 30,000 yen sushi porn.

Movie-Dark Shadows. A lame, stupid, badly written, poorly acted piece of crap. Do NOT waste your time or money.

Dinner at Mels Diner.
They do a good tuna melt.

Came home and watched British Panel Shows.

Sleeping in/snuggles

I made breakfast.

Karaoke. Very small crowd so I got to sing A LOT:

A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square-Bobby Darin
Manana-Peggy Lee (for which I felt it necessary to apologize to the one Latino in the bar)
Satisfy Me-Frank Sinatra
Let's Live for Today-Grass Roots
Wondrous Place-Billy Fury
Don't Rain On My Parade-Bobby Darin

At about 630PM, I went outside to see the eclipse. Daddy Dave had brought the special glasses to make it safe to look. Very impressive.

Why Does it Always Rain on Me?-Travis (Because you're from Scotland?)

Went home and cooked dinner. Watched episodes of Top Gear and then a few QI's.

Today-since I had the day off.

Doctor's appointment. Girl stuff and to talk about the floaters in my eyes that won't go away.

Clothes shopping. I HATE to do it, but I bought some stuff in my current size rather than the one I' m convinced I will magically revert to any day now.

Lunch at Chow.
You gotta love a tuna melt with avocado and their fries are MUCH better than Mels.

Goddess Nails:

Finished reading Reach for the Top: The Turbulent Life of Laurence Harvey

In a few hours, the pain of watching a once-great show will be over and I can return to my love affair with the characters as they were actually written rather than the hideously distorted caricatures that they were forced into becoming by David 'n' Katie and their flying crack monkeys.

I don't know what they're going to do with her, but I'd still LOVE a H/Cameron moment right down to an ILU on House's part, JUST to fuck with the fandom.

With 2 1/2 hours or so to go, I make my last stand in predicting that Wilson will not die.

I warned the public about DS a week ago; we concur with your opinion. Mr. Burton, Mr. Depp, bad show. We were not amused.

And now I'm craving a tuna melt (sans avocados, which I've never developed a taste for). A thick slice of tomato would be nice, though.

Note to Mr. Burton, there are many things your wife is quite good and a few she is not. She does NOT need to be in every movie you make. NOT having her in this would have improved it, although not by much. It's like they just couldn't pick one tone and stick with it through a whole scene much less a whole movie.

As for the avocados...perhaps you've never been exposed to really good ones? I know that when I was on the east coast and I thought guacomole was the stuff they served at El Torito, I had a low opinion of them myself. However, I'm sure we can get you a tomoato in lieu of the avocado, if necessary.

Uneven tone was exactly what I called it on. HBC is standard Burton fodder, I hardly notice her any more. And while j'adore Johnny, it's been years since I've seen him in anything I really *liked*.

I don't think I can hold out that long; I may just run out to the store in the morning for tuna and have it for lunch tomorrow. Oh wait, I need swiss cheese, too. &makes list*

Enjoy your tuna melt!

Sushi porn!

B and I went out for sushi on Sunday, for his (belated) birthday. Waraii in Oceanside does an amazing job. The fish is so tender I can actually take bites out of it. (Damn, I wish I had some now.)

The eclipse was visible through a cloud. Even so, I took VERY short peeks.

I hope you got through the House Apocalypse OK :)

The final House Babble is up!

Sushi is one of those things where the better quality you're able to afford, the more it spoils your ability to eat the not-so-great stuff. There's this place in Santa Cruz that I've only been to a few times, where make sushi with macadamia nuts (I know, I know) AND the best lemon-ginger tea in the world.

Macadamia nuts? Sounds interesting! What else is in it?

The best sushi I've ever had (my experiences with it are almost completely in the San Diego area) was at Tomiko's in Encinitas. The fish is so fresh, it tastes like they sent someone down to the beach (right down the hill) to dive for it. Unfortunately it's way out of our budget. But Waraii's is wonderful and affordable. And it's the sort of place where you know all the staff and they're always friendly and welcoming.

One of the former waitresses often had her baby Gloria in a carrier on her back while working. Even with customers oohing and aahing, the little girl slept soundly most of the time. When she was a toddler, she came out and socialized. Somebody made some watercolors of her at various ages and they were displayed on the wall for a while. We were sad to see them go. But there's still a special roll named "Lovely Gloria" on the menu.

Awwww! That sounds like a great place.

Here's the Yelp for the place in Santa Cruz. All I had to do was google sushi with macadamia nuts and it came right up.
I guess the macadamia nuts are pretty distinctive.

There's a place right next to the Mint, where I sometimes do take-out to bring home after Karaoke, but it's not GREAT sushi and therefore a bit disappointing.

We used to go to a lovely place in the Mission called Lady Seiko, but it's long gone.

I REALLY want to see Jiro Dreams of Sushi but by the time it showed up in my local movie theater I was too broke to go to the movies.

Um, (squeaks like Charlyne Yi) I liked Dark Shadows?

*shrug sigh* We all have guilty pleasures, but there's better things to waste your guilt on than such a badly done, blatantly pandering piece of crapola.

Of course you'll probably also disagree with my assessment of the last House episode.

Jiro was SO GOOD, although I did start to zone out toward the end, because Phillip Glass music always has that effect on me.
