Meet my new bicycle!

This is my brand new cream-colored Public Bike C-7.

Hubby bought it for me today and I basically rode it out of the store and we did some riding around town. .

I really like the bike. It's a less "athletic" bike, than the POS I've been riding, but I like it better and will hopefully do more riding on. It's better fitted to my size. Also, I don't have to keep slinging my leg over the top bar because there isn't one.

I'm going over to the South Park location today to get a bike computer hooked up and (on hubby's strong suggestion) a front rack.

Ooh, very pretty!! I love the bits of striping around the bars. :)

I'm not an athlete of any description and have no aspirations to be one but I finally bought my first grown-up bike end of last season and was thrilled to have found a shop that specializes in bikes very much like your new baby here so I could actually have a ride suited for city riding that I can pull off in a skirt on days when I need to be dressier for work. Actually, my mixte is even a bit sportier by commuter standards but still far better than a mountain bike. *loves her bike, obviously*

Offers you a hug and a high-five. This is the first bike where getting on it doesn't feel like a chore. Hubby keeps saying I can ride it in a skirt and I'm like, "Yeah, if it was 1985." I keep thinking he sees me on a bike in my Victorian skirt, corset and Gibson Girl hair-do.

Anyway, I did have a good ride today to pick up the bike computer, which hilariously enough only gives speed and distance in Kilometers. I guess if I'm going to have a European style bike, that makes sense. Although the company that makes the computer is actually Australian.

Good luck with your riding.

Beautiful! For some reason I didn't think you'd go for something that looks so... so classical. Like my first grown-up bike at age 13. The combination of that with narrow tyres and efficient gear changing sounds perfect.

It's very European as opposed to typically Californian where everyone either wants a Fixie so they can emulate the bike messengers OR a mountain bike.

I honestly wish I'd gotten one of these sooner. The one I've been riding for the last years made me really unhappy but I kept slogging away because I needed the exercise. This is the first bike where I think I might get in the habit of riding for the sake of riding and using it to do errands and stuff.

It's nice. I assume it's the kind one sees more often in your neck of the woods, rather than the fixies and mountainbikes that are more prevalent here.
