Although I gotta say, it's feels like one of the bleakest "Merry" months I've ever done. Yes, I AM the Queen of Angst, but I still feel like I wrote a higher percentage of dark!fic this time and that the darkness was even darker than usual. Plus the "light" stuff just wasn't all that funny. Nothing that makes me as happy as the Dirty Jobs fic from the first time around.

Also...let's face, comments ain't what they used to be, so the whole comment whore gratification aspect was a bit of let-down. I was very happy with the response to my Jack/Original!Jack Torchwood fic and some really amazing comments I got to Being Alive. (Especially surprising because OMG, hints of het in the Sherlock fandom.)

I'm really happy with the fic I wrote postulating that the Lola from Copacabana is the same Lola from Lola by the Kinks. That Old Feeling

I think I may have squicked myself out by writing Lion King fic

I haven't QUITE crossed the incest line for Syd/Jack, but I came pretty damn close.

Very bummed at lack of love for my NCIS OTP.

I'm not sure I have another year of this in me...which is pretty much what I've said every year for the past five years.

I love your MMOM fics, even when they're not my fandoms! I'll have to go back and re-read the ones I missed this month.

Believe it or not, I wasn't really trolling for comments, just acknowledging that the commenting culture has changed. (I blame A03.)

I think I managed to write a grand total of one fic this year, so you did a much better job also quantity wise. I don't know why you don't do this for a living where you find the stamina.

which is pretty much what I've said every year for the past five years.
That's a very good end line.

Also, this year some part of your f-list slowed down the way traffic slows down when the's an accodent on the opposite direction of the highway - I mean, the end of House was a big thing, emotionally, and not just for you (plus, I wonder whether it colored your fic choices).

Anyway, see you next year. (Inschallah, of course - Italians, being superstitious, always need to add provisos when making arrangements for the future, and our "Se Dio vuole" has a perfect counterpart on the other side of the Mediterranean).

I really really don't know about next year. I don't JUST do it for the comments, but if there's no way to know that I'm bringing other people pleasure then it does become wanking of the worst kind.

FWIW, I am trying to do some selling at the moment, mostly by scratching serial numbers off. Unfortunately one reason I think my fanfic is really good is because it's really specific. Therefore the scratching has to be a lot more extensive than just changing House and Wilson to Fred and Bob, for instance. All the identifying details, (medicine, addiction, pain) have to be swapped out for something else, and those details tend to be embedded in the very heart of the fic.

It's almost too bad I'm not one of those crap writers who just writes self-insert Mary Sues and who's fanfic is white-cock any two guys generic.

Your fics are excellent; but a lot of times I have no idea what the shows are about, or the characters. I loved your House fics, of course.

Understood. Not really trolling for comments, more just lamenting the state of fanfic in general when it comes to the culture of commenting.

I'm not sure what you mean. I'm wary of leaving criticism because sometimes the authors get upset. Sometimes I want to say, "I've read this trope 6000 times," but then it's that "don't read"? What if you don't know until you're into the story? Do fanfic writers have any obligation to originality? That's a genuine question, not an insult. Everybody writes what feels best of them, and there's a lot of everybody.

Thanks for letting me babble on your journal.

Babble away! I certainly intend for the Chelsea Drugstore to be a salon (if not a saloon) where we can actual discuss fannish issues
and real life ones, including the state of fannish communication.

I know my "boilerplate" is "comments and concrit welcome," but I do genuinely mean it, whether it's to acknowledge that I've used and hopefully transcended a trope or to discuss in a reasonable way what you think is a failure of characterization. For instance I've had some reasonable comment discussions on the neutering of James Wilson, trying to explain that the "real" Wilson that we were given in the first three seasons really is a philanderer and that House is OBSESSED with that fact.

Obviously I love to get unadulterated squeee and I used to relish those kind of comments basically worshipping at my feet and typing fingers, but I'm honestly looking for some level of human interaction. A Kudo is the next best thing I suppose, but unless someone can be arsed to at least say, "OUCH" or "This made me laugh" it's really hard to interpret what the Kudo means, besides "Kilroy was here."

This month I completed one and a half fics, and at the end (my time) my Windows crashed, leading to my losing all the data on my computer, and I didn't back up the stories online somewhere. Luckily I only lost two completed unposted stories, but argh.

Oh well, I definitely plan to rewrite the Revenge one (featuring William's character) with proper characterisation of him and the other will happen (it was from your prompts too, argh).

Am also intending to write up the prompts I've received that inspire me, just not for MMOM. But due to them being for then there will be masturbation in some form :)

We're certainly not limited to the Merry Month to indulge in a nice Wank-fic. However, unless the prompts is actually masturbation specific, I think it's probably ok to use it for a different kind of story as well.

I have a LOT Of prompts left over that I'll stock-pile for the next time I'm feeling creative.

I... haven't even been reading my flist for most of the last couple of months, so I need to go back and actually read some of these!

No worries. I know it sounds like me whining and bitching about lack of comments, which it probably is, but it's more a mourning of the loss of the comment culture which was so prevalent in 2006-2008 and seems to be dying out now.
