100 TV Shows-#26-Dirty Jobs

Dirty Jobs

My name's Mike Rowe, and this is my job. I explore the country looking for people who aren't afraid to get dirty — hard-working men and women who earn an honest living doing the kinds of jobs that make civilized life possible for the rest of us. Now, get ready to get dirty.

Only one fic, but it still makes me smile.

I love this show. It's simple and it's brilliant. Mike Rowe+Dirty Jobs.

I love Mike's snark. I love his voice. I love the connection to San Francisco. I love the gross-outs. I love Mike's commitment and goofieness. I love Barsky and Jones and all the crew. I totally ship Mike with Bill Bretherton (from Vexcon) and with the snake lady, and tons of others, although not the bastard who made him drag the boat in the swamps. I even got the feeling he was flirting with the veterinarian who made him express a dogs anal gland i.e. squeeze the poo out of a dog.

Like Mythbusters (which I'll do next) even though it can be "icky" it's a show I can (and do) watch over and over and over....especially when I'm trying to go to sleep. I hope Mike never runs out of dirty jobs.

I haven't watched Dirty Jobs in AGES, but what I really, really always loved about it is how respectful and genuinely interested Mike was about all the jobs. He's in AWE of some of the people who show him their jobs. It would be too easy to make fun of or belittle some of them but he never, ever does. It's wonderful.

He does a great job a finding the line between snark and belittlement. He's more than willing to mock himself and find humor in the situations without making fun of the little people. Do you remember the crab factory? When he was telling those kids to appreciate what their mom did for a living? And then the bit where he asked the woman for a kiss on the cheek and then (very sweetly) got her lips? Major AWWWWW!

There was kind of a vibe between Mike and the mosquito lady(she had a mosquito tat on her back, and was much sexier than one might expect someone with a mosquito obsession to be, imo.)
Mike can work those double entendres, man.
(I mean, I'm curious about the jobs, but much like a Bourdain travelogue, they're not why I watch.)
I think I became a fan when I heard him quote Hamlet to 4-H teenagers(they had a pig named Hamlet, natch, and he started quoting and they were like "WTF, old guy," but I thought "More, please," because I think he wanted to finish the whole scene or something. That's sexy...he's got a great voice.
At one time, I based a novel(Well, part of a novel, on a Rowe-like character, but then there was a CSI about mayhem on a reality show and I figured my idea was played out...I don't know, maybe I should take another look?)

Hubby DEFINELY thought there was something between Mike and Mosquito lady. Along with Snake Girl, that's one of the most over times he thought Mike was flirting.

Loved Mike and the pig girls, especially because that's the "everything goes wrong" piece. And yeah, the dude's voice....mrrrow. I even love him in the Ford commercials and what ever jeans he's shilling for where girls ogle his butt. The way he goes "that's not my girlfirend."

I'd definitely take a look at the story...see if you can peddle it to Dreamspinner or something. w

I think
he may be a natural flirt(he flirts with the camera, too) but those ladies responded.
