I was wrong and I'm so very very happy!

PETER CAPALDI IS GOING TO BE THE DOCTOR!!!!!!!

Now my only question is whether he'll be using his Scottish accent or not, because that would make it better, but accent or not, I am doing some MAJOR LEAGUE HAPPY DANCING. (Bonus schadenfreude points for the wailing, whinging and whining that is emitting from certain quarters.)

This even gives me hope that we will eventually get a Jack appearance, with real!Jack being written by Moff as he should be and reacting to the new Doctor as he most definitely would.

It must have been an omen of some kind when he turned up as the obsessive choir director from an episode of Midsomer Murders that hubby and I saw last week.

He could be just fine, and I would love to see Jack back.

Check out the 2nd series of the Hour and then The Thick Of It to see how good he is and what an amazing range. (Just don't let your parents hear the language used in The Thick Of It.)

Yeah, but they swore in Torchwood.

You have NO IDEA! Malcolm Tucker gets off more F-bombs in a single sentence than TW used in four series.

Seeing how my parents were like, "What did he just say?!" when Owen said the f word. I don't think I'd better watch that at all with them round.

I'm like those people who can't watch CoE for their own reason...that last episode was kind of a poison pill for me.

The awesomeness of this event just keeps piling up.

Yes, the whining and hand flapping from certain quarters is pretty hilarious, but all I could think was that the "certain quarters" of the internet would have flat out exploded had Eve Myles been revealed as the Doctor. And I would simply be laughing hysterically as that dark and creeeeeepy part of the internet just went up in flames.

I've been so happy to see Eve getting the exposure of her OWN show on BBC and Burn turning up in all sorts of high-profile work from Game of Thrones to Pacific Rim. And of course John in Arrow...the show sucks, but he gets to be a BAMF so...meh!

I am also hoping he'll use his Scottish accent. It's been awhile! (*waves back through time at dear old Seven*)

Is it terribly shallow that I'm looking forward to the Doctor having eyebrows again? ;)

I haven't seen a lot of Capaldi, but between Fires of Pompeii and Children of Earth, he seems to have a wide range. And maybe, just maybe, things will get back on track for Clara and her character development.

Jack seems like too much to hope for, though :(

I will NEVER give up my Jack-hopes. Especially not with Moff in charge. In fact, amid what I will admit is some well-deserved Moff-hate, I still love him for writing the Jack Harkness that I fell in love with and that I trust him to bring back. Possibly because of the things that other people loathe about his characterization. Sorry, I still want the guy who would have shagged Rose on top of Big Ben and done the Doctor in the same episode and screwed both his executioners etc etc.

Among all his other work, Capaldi was a great Charles I in The Devils Whore. One one hand it's a heavy-breathing bodice ripper, but on the other---John Simm, Michael Fassbender, Dominic West (as Cromwell) and Capaldi.

I'm looking forward to the next Neil Gaiman penned episode. Since last time Capaldi was in something Gaiman wrote was Neverwhere as The Angel Islington.

OOOHHHH! Good point. I'd forgotten the Gaiman/Capaldi connection. I sort of liked The Doctor's Wife, but was pretty MEH about the one he did in the last series. I'm really hoping that a fresh take on the Doctor will inspire the usual suspects to up their game a little. (Yes, Gatiss, I'm looking at you.)
