Whole30 challenge-Day 16-Random notes.

My first "green" smoothie This AM. I threw some kale in with the almond milk and 1/4 banana. It's fine as long as you don't actually look at it.

Two MAJOR temptations this morning-cretins selling Krispy Kremes at Montgomery St and the scale in the gym locker room. I managed to resist both, but the scale was whispering to me big time.

I've gotten my food cut-off up to 915PM and tonight I'm trying for 9PM. I don't think I can go back to 8PM because sometimes I don't even start eating dinner until then, but I think a workdays worth of IF (Intermittent Fasting) time is enough, considering where I started. Of course I'm still waking up consistently and not always able to get back to sleep. I was soaking in the tub at 340AM.

I did 12 miles on the bike before work yesterday, which is awesome except I must have gone over some glass and now I've got 2 (count em 2) flat tires. Bike shop is closed to day, so I need to do the whole run to the bike shop thing on my nonexistant lunch tomorrow.

Got some new toys at Cliff's Hardware last night---new veggie peelers and an actual cherry pitter.

So at this point I'm clean of sugar/gluten/dairy/sweeteners/honey/grains. And still coming awfully close to binging on nuts, although I do force myself to measure them out and write down exactly how much. Weirdly even with those massively high numbers of calories, I think I'm doing ok. Without the scale god there's no way to be sure, but the size 8 Dockers feel pretty lose...although that can also be their smidge of stretchiness.

IF I lose the weight WITH the nuts, that would be pretty good proof that the Paleo/Primal/Whole Food theory really does trump the calories in-calories out model.

Not sure how well this is going to work in Hawaii. No shortage fresh fruits and veggies, but can I really go to Cheeseburgers in Paradise and have them hold the bun...and the cheese?

Meanwhile work continues to be a stinky, sweltering heap of bovine fecal matter...oh did I mention...I GOT THE THIRD INTERVIEW! Tuesday at 7AM, I will be meeting a hiring manager at SFO.

Yanni has kindly agreed to shopping with me on Saturday and help me pick out a smashing outfit. Not be stereotypical or anything, but there are times a girl really does need a gay boy.

I can't cut my food off til after 9:30 because a lot of nights I don't start dinner until 8:30... Work just gets in the way!

And so much good look on the 3rd interview! The boy and I will be traveling for 3 weeks so I'll have to catch up on the news when I'm back. (fingers crossed)

That's why I'm not going for 8PM. Sometimes that's when I start dinner. But I do think there's value to giving my innards time to chillax.

...you can't eat cheese on paleo? That was a surprise to me, but then I've never gone into it that deeply. I have tried giving up sugar and/or eating fewer carbs, but it never lasts (for me) *g*

Everyone has their own way of "doing Paleo," but dairy is generally discouraged, although some people do drink whole mik, raw if they can get it, and some fermented dairy products like kefir.

Thanks! I'm so desperate to get out of my current hell-hole. I need to somehow convey my enthusiasm for the position without coming off as the needy wreck I actually am.

Glad you were able to resist the scale. I'm glad to have one on an intermittent basis (at the Y). I become convinced I've gained a lot of weight where in fact my weight is the same.

We recently switched to whole milk products rather than low fat. My family eats a lot of diary, in moderation. We don't have cardiovascular disease, and tend to have strong bones and teeth. Recent studies have shown that people who use whole milk products are usually slimmer than people who use low or no fat versions!

I heard someone in a Paleo lecture vid call nonfat milk "sugar water with vitamins" and it kind of hit home. If I did go back to milk, it would definitely be whole and raw if I can get it.

Reading over the Paleo diet, it sounds like the Atkins diet in a loincloth. The diet my doctor gave me for high blood pressure tells you to eat a lot of carbs.

Except Atkins makes no differentiation in QUALITY of food and encourages all sorts of processed crapola, especially the protein bars they sell. So there are similarities, but it's a lot more of a lifestyle change than a temporary fix. Also a lot about getting sleep and reducing stress. (Bwahahahahahaah)

Of course for that reason Paleo can come across as snobby---oh, it only works if you're eating high quality grass-fed meat etc etc. And yeah there is some emphasis on that and I'm damn lucky to be in an environment that allows me to play the game that way.

Everybody has to find their own way. I've tried a lot of doors and I'm NOT sure this is my Mystery Date, but it's working for the time being. I still need to conquer the nut conundrum...tonight I'm going to try "beefing" up on other protein so I can get an idea as to whether it's something specific to the nuts or just wanting to eat SOMETHING.
