Gray had miscalculated in his plans to punish Jack.
He had no way of knowing what Jack had already endured in the years following Gray’s disappearance.
Being buried under the earth, living and dying and living again, wasn’t even close to what he’d gone through as the brother who’d failed. The pain of suffocation was nothing compared to living with the guilt he felt every time he looked in their mother’s eyes.
Each time he awoke again, no matter how horrible, was still a cause for rejoicing when he remembered how he’d come to be there.
His brother was alive.
