I would say that this show is getting incredibly schizophrenic, but I wouldn’t want to insult schizophrenics anymore than this episode already did, and no the PSA at the end doesn’t help much.
All I can say is that there seem to be three or four different shows all going on at the same time, from different eras of House MD and I’m loving some and hating others and sometimes doing both simultaneous. Yes, I’m a bit confused.
House and Wilson are back to Season 1. Which is awesome. I love House and Wilson in Season one. EXCEPT, we and they have all lived through seasons 2/3/4/5 and god help us all 6. It’s the damndest thing. RSL even LOOKS like Season 1 Wilson. He’s lost weight and has his hair back. Wilson is cooking again, although if that’s the same Condo he jobbed Cuddy out of, then the kitchen has expanded mightily since the last time we saw it. Wilson is offering “advise” about House/Cuddy, but House and Wilson are the alpha couple. Sam=Julie. Wilson is in what he knows is an already crumbling relationship that he’s lying to himself about. House/Wilson is either back to banter and blow-jobs or unrequited pining depending on the shade of your slash-glasses.
Which I love. Honestly. It’s all subtext and hardly any fanservice. Although I have to wonder if there was any point to the motorcycle scene, except to show House/Wilson and some motorcycles and to slip in a gay reference by omission.
HOWEVER…it drives me a little bonkers that we’re getting this now. After four years of suffering through Tritter/Amber/Detox etc. I’m totally torn. I love what I’m seeing, but I can’t accept it unconditionally, because it shouldn’t be happening. I’ve heard of ret-con but this is ridiculous.
Which brings us to the stupid stupid stupidity of House and Cuddy. Let me say it again: Be careful what you ask for. Do you think Lisa E. is really happy with THIS version of House/Cuddy and what’s being done to her character? Is she blinded by the light of the cerulean orbs, which I must say are NOT being shown to their best advantage lately, as is to show how muted House is in this relationship.
They came so close to actually saying something important about House/Cuddy. The hooker/masseuse story COULD have worked because it’s about the leg, about the pain, and the leg and the pain are about the surgery. I even would have been happy if they really focused on the House/Hooker thing which is one of my favorite things that they have kept continuity on. BUT NO! They make it ALL ABOUT CUDDY. About her feelings. Not about the fact that she is partially responsible for House’s pain, or the psychological issues that have kept him with hookers since at least post-Stacy. So why are we doing this crap with the male hooker? What is she acting like a stroppy bint about the fact that she’s one of House’s former hookers and not dealing with what that means?
Seriously, every single moment of that crap made me want to throw things at the screen.
And yet…the medical plot was great. I was involved and engrossed in that, guessing early on the that the “Sleeping with the Enemy” story was bogus, but thinking she’d be a compulsive liar. The stuff with the “new hire” wasn’t half bad, although it made me angry for the waste that was the Survivor game in Season 4, when they could have done a series of eps like this and actually let us get to know individuals in a (for House) realistic situation.
I like that House is obsessed with Chase and Cameron, but the whole “She’s not like Cameron” thing was a little bizarre, because on one hand, being like Cameron is implied to be bad, while at the same time, Cameron’s intelligence was being constantly lauded. HUH?
Was it me or did not-Cam look a lot like Mariska Hargitay?
Also…since they’ve utterly failed to make Taub into Wilson, I’m supposed to buy Chase as a man-slut? Again conflicted-Jesse Spencer has only grown in hotness and he can play sly sensuality brilliantly, but the idea that’s he getting over Cameron by screwing around compulsively doesn’t feel exactly right. (Also, are we supposed to think he’s completely over KILLING A GUY?)
I dunno. I love watching Jesse play this stuff and I could kind of see it happening, but it’s not really gelling for me.
Taub got his STFU early with the “Dude!” routine and was kind enough to mostly disappear after that.
On the other hand: Chase/Foreman….let me say that again….CHASE/FOREMAN!!!
It’s been a long time since we had that much interaction between them and I’d nearly forgotten how good they can be together, being snarky and bitchy and then putting it aside to take care of the patient. (Remember the bit in Babies and Bathwater, when they’re fighting right up until they walk in the door of the patient’s room and then they’re all business?)
Jesse and Omar were completely selling it and reminding me what was great about FCC and their ability to get under each other’s skin. Those scenes all felt completely in character, right down to Foreman’s insecurity about his own role on the team and his wanting to be more in charge. I felt like the writers had suddenly remembered that Season 2-Foreman in Charge had actually happened.
Not to mention, that fact that Omar always had WAY more chemistry with Jesse than he ever did with Olivia. Some of those scenes, especially the one in the elevator were absolutely crackling. Best writing I’ve seen the whole season. GIVE ME HATE!SEX FIC. Like now!
Loved House being a prick by showing the picture of Mommy-chase, just because it reminds us all that HOUSE IS A PRICK
The medical reveal was rubbish. What the hell was anyone thinking with that ending? The husband wants to leave the schizophrenic wife because it’s “too hard” and so House is going to make the great sacrifice of giving up his hooker/masseuse? What the fuckety fucking fuck? The fail there is nearly beyond comprehension. I don’t even know where to start.
And then…House/Cuddy/Child. Yuck. Yuck. And More YUCK.
But most of all, what is that large glass that House is drinking from? As we saw all last season, House is still drinking alcohol. His great “healing pussy” activity with Cuddy is NOT keeping him clean and sober. I know the show will never address this, but to me that’s the story. Whatever happened in Mayfield changed and healed and cured NOTHING. Whatever “relationship” he has with Cuddy is a lie if she is looking at him and thinking he is clean and sober.
Enjoy it while you can Cuddy (and Lisa E). This man is IN relapse even if he doesn’t define it that way, and you are all heading for a major disaster.
And no, I don’t mean the horror of what we saw in the previews.
