I'd forgotten how much I love C-Span!

I have to say that since the demise of Booknotes and due to the exponential growth of my MSNBC/Keith/Rachel et al obsession, I've watched considerably less of C-SPAN and C-S
PAN 2 than I used to back in the day when I HAD to be home at 8PM on Sunday to watch Booknotes with hubby. (There are still Booknotes Moments that are among our shared giggle inducers whenever they are referenced.)

As you know, I'm in a bit of a funk (putting it mildly) regarding the impending catastrophe that is about to be unleashed on this great country of ours by the anti-choice, anti-free speech, anti-environmental, anti all things good about America forces.

So at around 2:00AM, I found myself flipping channels and I came upon a discussion on C-SPAN with historians Douglas Brinkley and Richard Norton Smith. You know what they were doing? They were talking? Quietly, seriously, funny and intensely. With humor and intelligence and a knowledge of history. It was awesome. I love those guys. I love Brian Lamb, although man is he looking old.

It was just so great hearing a good solid discussion with all sorts of anecdotes about presidents and what they had to deal with. Perspective. That's what it was about. Perspective. Sort of a "This too shall pass" moment. Plus a reminder that Obama doesn't have to be Bill Clinton to get through this, he can easily be Harry Truman. And would that be fun.

Obviously, I'm not about to stop watching MSNBC. At the moment I'm trying to come to terms with the fact that I totally agree with Keith (re: Jon Stewart) there is NO "moral equivalence" between Fixed Noise and MSNBC and yet...well, you know. It does get pretty loud sometimes. (PLEASE MSNBC---get rid of the Ed Show and give me an hour of Ana Marie Cox and Melissa Harris Perry with frequent appearances by Rachel.)

On the other hand, I know we have to yell to be heard at all when the opposite side has the capacity to blanket the airwaves with their crapola.

I'm just saying it was nice to hear some real voices of reason for an hour.
