The Faith Healer scam was an absolute gold-mine.

Mozzie filled a rented hall with suckers. Kate made quite a fetching “Sister of Mercy,” while Neal worked the stage in sweat and shirt-sleeves.

In one night, he healed the sick, brought at least five sinners to Jesus and raised over a thousand dollars to keep the “crusade” going,

It gave them enough dough to survive another month in Chicago, culminating in a grand Christmas dinner.

“So when does Brother Neal make his next appearance,” Mozzie asked, drumstick in hand.

Neal shook his head, struck with the strange feeling of remorse.

“Never.”
