Julie, being Julie, got a standing room only crowd, a gorgeous, sunny day in Colma, and a service that started late. (Just like her wedding.)
It was very much a reunion of Mint "old-timers," including my beloved Rich, who showed up just as the service was starting, and stood right in back of me and Tommy. We ended up sort of holding each other through the Mourner's Kaddish at the grave side.
The whole thing was very intense and emotional. I skipped the reception afterwards. David took us back to the City and I spent some time with Hubby. Went to Samovar for tea.
Then I went to the Mint instead of to Sebastian's party, which I could not face. That's the first reason I suck. At the Mint a bunch of us lined up at the bar and sang various tributes to Julie. Me, David, Tommy, Emma, Gayle, Daniel. Daddy Dave, the bartender was incredibly emotional. Todd and Donatello showed up as well. My "tribute" song was "Can't Get It Out Of My Head" by ELO, because I'll never forget her. Ever.
So anyway, the real reason I suck, and should never go to a funeral or be around anything that requires solemnity, is that normal people would NOT take the opportunity to say, "Mr. Coffee is here," while following a casket out to the cemetary.
