So I get an ATM card in the mail from Wells Fargo, and I assume it's a new one for my regular accounts the joint checking and saving that I have with hubby. I hadn't requested a new card or anything, but they DO send out new ones periodically, and I it never occurred to me to think it was odd.
Then a few days later, I'm at Safeway and my ATM is declined for a sale. I know damn well there's a shitload of money in the accunts, so I think it must be a Safeway problem. The next night I try to use my card when getting my goddess nails done and it's declined. Luckily Kathy knows me well enough to know I'm not trying to scam her and lets me bring her cash the next day.
I go on-line and check the accounts. Plenty of money. This is getting weird. The next day I go to the an ATM and I'm able to get money, although it does seem to be telling me that my checking account is empty and I'll have to go into over-draft, which usually comes out of savings. Fine.
It's not until yesterday at an ATM that I notice that I don't seem to have access to savings at all, just checking. I thought that was odd, and I'd have to call and get it fixed, but I HATE dealing with shit like that so I put it off and go into Scarlett Ohara mode.
I get home and there's a bunch of overdraft bills from Wells Fargo. Matt thinks it means my ATM got hooked into an account we use for psycho-sis, which I'm not supposed to have access to AT ALL! This is bad because that would mean that not only have I been drawing on an empty account but we are getting over-draft bills for the privilige, however, it would be Wells fault and not mine for screwing up my ATM.
This morning, I go to the Wells Fargo office across the street and the nice people there help me figure out whats going on....
.....WAIT FOR IT......
I have another itsy-bitsy account at Wells that I used for some insurance money a few years ago. I've never had an ATM for that account and never wanted one and THAT'S what they sent me an ATM for. THAT'S where the money was coming from. THAT'S where the overdraft charges were going.
I TOSSED MY VALID ATM CARD FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER, EXCEPT THAT I DIDN'T BOTHER TO CHECK WHICH ACCOUNT THE NEW ATM WAS FOR BECAUSE IT NEVER OCCURRED TO ME THEY WOULD OUT OF THE BLUE SEND ME A CARD FOR AN ACCOUNT THAT I NEVER HAD ONE FOR.
So, I'm going to get a NEW ATM card for my regular accounts in 5-10 days and the abosolutely lovely Leela Wilson agreed to waive the over-draft charges on the other account in deference to my stupidity. Bless you, Leela.
