Hey, nothing like getting a Christmas episode when it's nearly February.
Previous House Christmas eps: Damned If You Do, Deception, Merry Little Christmas, all pretty awesome. I like MLC and think there's still a world of great angst!fic to be wrung out it. And of course Damned If You Do, is practically the (ahem) seminal H/W ship episode, whether you lean toward the shmoopy/fluffy aspect of the laughing/Chinese food or the sadness/angst of House alone, drinking playing piano because Wilson did eventually go home to Julie.
Anyway, Christmas Episodes have generally been good. This one had a lot going for it especially in the H/W department. Like every single H/W scene was a little piece of shippy joy and to me, way, way, way more proof of "canon" H/W love/lust/angst than the much-vaunted "I love you," or the slightly warmed-over intensity of "You want to control everything" from Games.
I would say this is the best H/W interaction we've had all season. It feels like the perfect blend of Season 1 and 2 snark/banter (tell me "losing his boyish good looks" wasn't nabbed from a fanfic) with just the slightest hint of Season 3 angst/pain. When Wilson said "Because I know it hurts you," my NO FLUFF ZONE heart did the happy dance. Plus OMG---REINDEER WILSON. Woof! The cute. "Moose on a Jew." Heheheheh. FOOSBALL SIGHTING! At least one scene where I could tell that Hugh was desperately trying not to crack up. Oh the Hugh&Bobby love was strong, let me tell ya. (Strike!fic in the works.)
ETA: Oh yeah...one good House/Cuddy scene, but nothing outstanding. In fact, I'd forgotten about it until I got strawberrytatto's comment.
HERE COMES THE SPOILER SPECULATIONIf the spoiler is true about Wilson/Amber, it totally supports my theory that Wilson needs a woman in his life to get any real emotional leverage over House. This is the first time he's had a real pair on him since the guitar-napping and even that kind of petered out. If he's boffing CTB, all of a sudden, he's not House's victim anymore and House has to show some respect. End of spoiler speculation.
Hugh Laurie was in amazing form throughout. It felt like he was having fun again, which I honestly didn't feel during the whole "picking the new team," Arc.
PoTW-We start with the old switcheroo and the possibilty of yet another bad parent.
Donna from West Wing. Coolness. And a more-or-less patient driven episode. Finally.
The kid was extremely good and I loved her interactions with House. Some of my favorites since the kid in "Need To Know." However, who didn't see the "Paternity" twist of the kid being adopted coming about a zillion miles away.
Speaking of rehash---Hello...I've seen Clueless. I'm surprised there wasn't a bet and some touchy-feely money passing at the end.
I'm still hating on Thirteen big time, although I gotta say Kutner might be growing on me, EXCEPT when he is just so obviously channeling Chase with his House-worship. The whole Secret Santa thing to mess with the team...not quite THAT amusing, although the nicknames were fun. We really, really, really need to get rid of Thirteen and her Huntington's maybe/maybe not plot, especially if it's going to become a BIG THING at some point. Taub is useless. Did he even contribute anything interesting to the case at any point?
Clinic Duty-YAY. I was totally into this subplot and I really did think she was a hooker, so the whole playing Mary thing was confusing. Was she a hooker or just (ahem) fucking with House. If not, wasn't she just a little quick to mention her labia when the EWWWWWWWWWWWWW rash showed up.
And could she really have gotten the infection from the donkey if all she has to do is ride in on it, rather than some other (ahem) kind of riding? Maybe I'm a total idiot and I got distracted.
Still no new credits. Does that mean there's hope that the Not-FCC could still be gotten rid of?
Omar really has the eye-roll thing down to a fine art, (which doesn't excuse every fanficcer from including at least one in every single story that he appears in.) Now can he do something else? PLEASE. (OK, the psyching out the skeevy guy was fun.)
Not enough Chase, but OMG, that one shot of Jesse smiling in the party scene? That is what pretty looks like. No Cam at all, except for the last scene and no dialogue? Proving my point about the cluster-fuck. Sheesh.
IMAO-Best episode of the season so far. However if "The critics say, this could be the best season of House yet," the critics are either on drugs or on the payroll.
ppth_support The Unusual Suspects is officially opening on February 1st. If you've got any stories, ficlets, drabbles, artwork or recs for stories dealing with Patients, Clinic Patients, Friends, Family and minor characters from the first three seasons, please get ready to post, and by all means join the community. Reposting of old fics is welcome, if they meet the criteria, but we'd love to see new stuff.
So many great characters to work with!
Het/Slash/Gen are all welcome.
