fatuous lunatic

Fun with anons....and what real stalking looks like.

OK. Between you me and the wall, I'm still not sure I get the whole "anon" thing as it applies to LJ. The usernames are masks and we are free to stay very tightly hidden behind them. I choose to reveal certain things about myself and not others, but it is certainly possible to have a full, rich LJ life and not reveal any of those things (marital status, city of residence, profession) to anyone. But I have noticed that people do somehow hide behind the extra anon of their anon, when they are being outrageously obnoxious and bitchy.

So yesterday, I was reading fandomsecrets, as you do, and I came across This Secret. Which I approved of. OP (original poster) has discovered Robert Downey Jr. and thinks he is a better actor than the other two pictured (Jensen Ackles and Orlando Bloom). She is happy that she's discovered someone who has more talent and that she can move on from shallow crushes based on looks. Awesome secret. Who could complain?

Then I came upon this little slice of heaven in the comments:

I'll give you Orlando, but not Jensen, not really... Not many soap stars can turn their careers in new directions.

RDJ is talented, but kind of a fuck up. So he's had a couple good movies {Iron Man and Kiss Kiss are the only two I'll concede to}. Tropic Thunder? Are you kidding? Eventually he'll just go back to drugs and OD in a few years.

The first part was a reference to an earlier comment. The second is a matter of debate. But the third really got my dander up. Mr. Downey has, without question been a fuck-up in the past. He's been incredibly honest about that. He seems to be doing what he needs to do to say clean and sober and EVEN WHILE HE WAS USING he gave some amazing performances.

The last line just made my blood boil. (Keep in mind, this wench was posting anonymously.)

So I replied with: Nice sentiment there, anon.

Downey, fucked up and in the gutter, is a better actor on his worst day than Jensen will ever be, and will have more star power and charisma than Orlando.

Now, you may notice a complete and total lack of any mention of the name JOHN BARROWMAN in that comment. I did use my own username and a Jack/Owen icon.

Here's what Miss Charm and Tact came back with: Preference for talent is subjective, Ms.Number-one-fan-of-the-Barrowman-school-of-Acting.

NICE! (Because THAT has anything to do with wishing a relapse on an addict.)

Moving on to what real evil internet stalking looks like and it has absolutely nothing to do with me. In fact, I'm going to stop calling my anonymous fans stalkers, because although they are sometimes obsessive, they generally don't come to my posts and wreak havoc. There was one remark about trying to disable my LJ, but I assume it was heat of the moment and never went anywhere.

As you may know, my husband has taken up knitting. The previous accident was his "crochet leg" and this one is his "knitting leg." He follows knitting blogs, including that of Yarn Harlot. (If you saw the episode of Graham Norton with Greg Kinnear, her blog was referenced by Graham and Greg.) Last night, he told me to take a look at certain posting in her blog.

The blogger is a Canadian and apparently she posted something on Canada Day that got up an American reader's snout something fierce. Clearly a very disturbed American.

Anyway, if you have cyber-stalking issues this may be triggery for you, so read at your own risk. This is what cyber-stalking is really about.

That is some chilling, scary, shit and I totally have to commend Yarn Harlot for taking it as well as she is and not letting this person intimidate her. So in the name of clarity and respect for what stalking really is, I'm not going to use the term anymore for my situation.

Prompts can be used for any fandom, pairing, or even original fic, if you like. (Yes, any.) All I ask is that you credit me with providing the prompt and comment with a link to the entry.

Prompt #210

I know I dreamed you, a sin and a lie
I have my freedom, but I don't have much time
Faith has been broken, tears must be cried
Lets do some living after we die.
