I'm going to call him Captain Crunch

There's SOMETHING in my kitchen. When I get up in the middle of the night, I can hear it chomping in there. The assumption is some vermin of the rodential kind. Hubby is NOT happy with my naming the damn thing and has sworn a bounty on its head. He is talking about both traps and poison. He wants it dead. I told him this was not very Buddha-like. He doesn't care.

Hi "fans." DIAF? Really? For having the temerity to point out that whatever charms GDL may hold for a certain contingent of fans, he hardly qualifies as sylphlike, especially these days, if recent photos are anything to go by. Should those of you attending DragonCon wish to assure me that he is actually second cousin to a gazelle, I'll be happy to retract.

More to come...stay tuned.

Random Ramblings of a Rambling Rose.

Thank you speccygeekgrrl for my fabulous new icon. Bryan looks unbelievably hot there.

Hubby wants a GPS. No, I have NO IDEA why, but when he gets an "I want a new toy" obsession, it's very hard to fight, as the proliferation of the instruments in the apartment will attest to. He actually bought the Venture Etrex HC, but ended up returning it because he thought it wouldn't download maps, although now it turns out that it would have. He's currently on-line and on the phone trying to track down another one. I'm quite clueless about this whole thing, so any suggestions are welcome. Apparently it needs a long battery life because he will not be using it in a motor vehicle, until such time as he actually learns to drive a car.

UPDATE-He is on his way now to purchase a Garmin Oregon 550-T.

I've had my Super Beta outfit on again, and I've run into a bit of self-doubt on the UK/US issue. If I'm betaing for Watchmen, specifically the movie version, I'm operating on the assumption that spelling and vernacular should reflect US English, since the characters are (mostly) Americans residing in the United States. BUT---does the original creator being British give any leeway that British English, both spelling and vernacular might be acceptable?

Travel Plans

OK, Glaswegians, it looks like we'll be doing some time there as well.

Sleeper Train From London to Glasgow.

I'm still saying this is all theoretical based on hubby really putting in rehab time so he can do the walking the trip would entail, but he's certainly talking like it's gonna happen.

1. Halloween-this is still sort of a hush-hush thing, but I will tell you that there are three different parts to the costume and it spans more than one fandom. I have MOST of the first part written, although I've mentally changed a crucial component to it. I'm planning on taking the laptop to the Mint and working on it there. If I can get it out to beta before I go back to work on Monday, I'll be all smiles.

2. B-Day fic. I've cut down tremendously on those, including the possibility that I won't be presenting one on my own birthday, which is a bummer. But there is a (ahem) quickie in the works.

3. NOVEL. I've pushed through a bit on chapter 7 and want to try and get it posted to the Novel Filter by the 15th. Thanks to the imput from michelleann68, I'm considering a prologue chapter, which might help bring the reader more quickly into the world of the novel without having to wait for the idiot lecture to find out exactly what's going on. I'm not sure if I'm going to wait to write that until after I finish the body of the novel or do it as soon as I finish chapter 7.

4. YULETIDE-Yes, I'm going to do it again. Yes, I'm going to encourage everybody else to do so, in spite of the heartaches we go through in the aftermath. I know it's a bit early, but I assume the nomination process for fandoms will be starting up soon, so it's time to think about fandoms to nominate. I want to make sure that State of Play gets in again.

ETA-5-I want to finish up a project that michelleann68 and I have had in the works for awhile...preferably before the House Season Premiere.

ETA-6-I still owe teamharkness a fic for hand-holding me through CoE and reassuring me that it would be ok, which by my standards, it was.

Update-He's home with the GPS. I'm running out for bagels. Believe it or not, I'm actually hungry again.

We saw the trailer for "An Education"

and hubby gets the points for recognizing Carey Mulligan a/k/a Sally Sparrow before I did.
The cast looks amazing:

* Carey Mulligan as Jenny
* Peter Sarsgaard as David
* Rosamund Pike as Helen
* Emma Thompson as Headmistress
* Olivia Williams as Miss Stubbs
* Alfred Molina as Jack, Jenny's father
* Sally Hawkins as Sarah
* Amanda Fairbank Hynes as Hattie
* Ellie Kendrick as Tina
* Dominic Cooper as Danny (according to Wiki, "a role that was originally going to be played by Orlando Bloom, who dropped out right before shooting started")

Can I get a big SQUEEEEEEE for Peter Sarsgaard?

Am I the only one who thinks Carey looks incredibly like Emily Watson did when she first started out? Especially since the character in this movie apparently plays cello, I thought it was somehow connected to Hilary and Jackie where Emily Watson played Jacqueline du Pre.

Have any of my lucky British friends seen this yet?

Song Lyric Prompt-a-Day 2009 Day 233

Prompts can be used for any fandom, pairing, or even original fic, if you like. (Yes, any.) All I ask is that you credit me with providing the prompt and comment with a link to the entry.

Prompt #233

The door to happiness was almost open
Just one more step or two and I'd be in
Then all at once the vows you made were broken
The door to happiness was closed again.
