30 Days of Writing Questions-Day 23

Here's the list

Another late posting.

23. How long does it usually take you to complete an entire story—from planning to writing to posting (if you post your work)?

In the immortal words of Lady Sally McGee, "Art takes as long as it takes."

I can bang out a drabble in a few minutes and I spent three years working on the dark!Jeeves fic. OK, that was extreme, but each story is different, and may or may not be influenced by an artibitrary deadline of a birthday or ficathon, or wanting to have something posted before a potential Jossing, etc. Anything longer than a drabble (and even most of those) I'll want a beta of some sort on, and that can vary as well. If I just ask for a typo or Britcheck, that's one thing, but if I'm begging for Full Metal Beta, I have to give the Beta as much time as they need as well.

On the original fiction front, I wish I'd finished my West Hollywood novel sooner, because it was outdated in many ways (technology, social mores) by the time I started shopping for a new agent, and I'm slightly worried the same thing could be happening to the NOVEL underway, so perhaps I need to speed up that process.
