"Farewell, My Lovely" TW drabble-CoE specific Jack/Gwen

Title: Farewell, My Lovely
Fandom: Torchwood
Pairing: Jack/Gwen
Rating: PG
Wordcount: 100
Notes: Written for samstjames, who stumped me in the Stump the Author meme, and requested Jack/Gwen, something dark. Takes place during the last scene of CoE-slightly spoilery. Thanks to savemoony for lookover and suggestions.

She still believed.

After everything she’d been through and seen and done, Gwen Cooper still had the idealism that had brought her into the Hub with those pizzas, and Jack loved her for it.

Now that he felt himself burnt out and empty, he longed to find solace in her arms. In his search for redemption, he’d given up the chase, telling himself he was trying to live up to the Doctor’s standards.

Jack no longer cared about doing the right thing; he wanted Gwen more than ever, Rhys and baby be damned.

He could run, but he’d never forget.
