Two pretty amazing hours, showing once again just how badly Hugh Laurie was screwed over last night at the Emmys. The man is fucking amazing.
Most of the bad shit I was expecting didn't happen. House did not (at least on screen) tell the shrink any bullshit about his abusive father. He also didn't open up about Stacy, Cuddy, Wilson or anything else. All his issues were extremely vague, which was fine by me. There was one oblique Wilson reference, although interestingly the only actual scene with Wilson, reinforced my most angsty vision of the ship. In trying to help house, Wilson hurt him. Again. House went back to his room mate and said "You're my only friend."
He doesn't seem to have discussed the details of his hallucinations either. I realize that therapy was mostly going on off screen, so he MIGHT have talked about all of that, but since I didn't see it, I can safely go on assuming that he didn't. And especially sick right back in my firm believe that House was NOT physically abused by John House. I'd say his whole upbringing might have been emotionally abusive, but the specific things he told SRV...were a lie!
However on the H/W ship front...WTF????? Wilson couldn't come and pick him up. House had to take a bus? A fucking bus? Do we think House ever wants to get on a bus again as long as he lives.
House lost "two colleagues." TWO? Are they calling Amber a colleague? She certainly wasn't at the time of her death.
By the way...Hugh Laure and Megan Dodds? House and Dr. Beasely....I wrote fic for them over a year ago...or at least for Jools Siviter and Christine Dale. The Cost of Favours. It's mostly Jools/Danny and very kinky, but there's a great Jools/Christine scene, that I'm still pretty proud of. I can't believe they were in this episode together. Awesome sauce.
A certain amount of mush was inevitable. We know the girl would get her voice back. I didn't see Captain Freedom going over the ledge, but once it did, we know there'd have to be the big "I'm sorry" scene. It wasn't sublte, but whatcha gonna do.
As for the cello playing...hey I love Bach as much as anybody, but there really are other cello pieces.
The "talent show" was pure, 100% cringe-worthy, and I really wish we could have been spared.
And now, the moment you've all be waiting for. House has sex. With a woman, because after throwing out a few fake gay jokes as fanservice, they have to remind us that he's HETHETHETHETHET. So.....sex....in a chair. Even with anti-depressants, I don't think that's such a fab idea with the leg. And of course there was no indication of any pants removal or unzipping. But it was somehow still hot, at least in the moment. We got to see House's O-face in a serious scene, and it was fucking hot.
Of course, by making it someone we'll never see (or I suspect here of) again, there can be no long-term ramifications, except that she no sooner has what she seems to think is "perfect" sex in a chair, then she basically pulls a Stacy, and leaves with her husband and the kid we'd never heard of before either. Therefore House MAY be off vicodin (and I'm still not in love with that idea and wouldn't mind a relapse) but he's been broken-hearted again, and no matter what Dr. Andre thinks, he's gonna go running right back to Wilson, and their dysfunctional relationship. Which is fabulous.
Hopefully bastard House will still be the order of the day.
I'm not 100% sure we're getting our show back, but there is definitely hope.
