Boredom is the real enemy.
Pain and misery are merely old friends asking if Greg can come out and play. The leg throbs and the loneliness cuts through his soul, but he slams the door and tells them to get lost. He knows they’ll be back, because only your friends care enough to destroy you, but for now they can’t get to him.
Now he faces the emptiness of hours with no new challenge. No marriages to destroy, no lives to interfere with, no Cuddy to torment.
He remembers the heady rush that goes with scoring.
Boredom just might win.
