In case you didn't know, The 11th annual San Francisco Bluegrass & Old-Time Festival (SFBOT) is starting tonight.
Hubby has actually taken the whole week off so that he can attend several of the events including a concert tomorrow night at the Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, featuring Loudon Wainwright III. (Father of Rufus and Martha among other things.) He's going with a friend. This is absolutely fine by me. The friend has a Miyata which means transporting more than one of us would be a nightmare and frankly, I'm just not that crazy about the venue or that excited about the performer. He and I will be attending a concert at Noe Valley Ministry next Friday with Jackstraw, The Crooked Jades and Black Crown Stringband, which I am looking forward to.
However, Jeff, the guy he's going with, apparently expressed concern as to whether I'd blow a gasket that my husband was spending Valentine's Eve doing something with someone other than myself and hubby called to see if it was going to be an issue.
And I'm like Dude! We'll spend Saturday together and most of Sunday. We've just been through two broken legs in less than two years. After nearly 20 years of marriage, I'm not about being all ooey and gooey on one designated day.
ETA---Turns out the Loudon Wainwright show is sold out for advance tickets and he now wants me to go to a different show at Noe Valley or one at Cafe Du Nord...and the fact is I really don't want go out tomorrow night. I have a writing project I want to do instead. And I just called him back to tell him that.
This is what almost 20 years of marriage looks like. At least for us.
