Yeah, Jim. I love that song too, even if there are other Spandau Ballet songs that are less over-played that I like better. But it was the right song for Alex and Gene to dance to.
I guess I'm happy that the dancing didn't feel particularly comfortably. I think they're still pushing each other away. Even though Gene was annoyed at being cock-blocked, I didn't feel like Glenister was playing it as a raging hard-on kind of thing. It doesn't take a tin-hat or a pair of slash glasses to see that Gene's strongest feelings are still for Sam.
The Chris "standing up" to Gene bit really seemed to come out of nowhere and therefore didn't have much pizzazz.
The ANC plot did nothing for me and made me feel like everyone was regressing. The jokes and personalities were back in Season 2, or even 1, right down to "all-knowing" Alex. Interestingly, she even reverted to the Madonna, bra-showing looking at one point.
I'm not all that interested in the "stars." It wouldn't make sense for Shaz to hear voices from the Railway Arms since she was never there.
So...the big question...did they get Simm back for the wrap-up and manage to keep it secret? I doubt it, so I'm really hoping whatever the resolution is, it's NOT a big let-down, and that it ends things as satisfyingly as LoM did.
Either way---one helluva ride.
I will always love Gene Hunt and I'll always be grateful to the LoM/A2A guys for giving him to us.
