Day 14 - Favorite male character
Oh, decisions, decision. Do I go with a heartthrob from my childhood/adolescence like Captain Kirk or Dan Tanna? Pick a dark horse such as Jools Siviter who in two episodes has inspired vast amounts of lust and fanon? How could I ignore
The Guv. The Gene Genie. The sheriff. The good, the bad AND the Ugly. An overweight, over-the-hill, nicotine-stained, borderline-alcoholic homophobe with a superiority complex and an unhealthy obsession with male bonding. (Gene actually gets bonus points for not having suffered any character assassination in two series of Life on Mars and three of Ashes to Ashes, barring anything that happens in the A2A finale.)
The omni-sexual, poly-amorous, conman, soldier, and all-around charming bastard. The guy who first flashed his Hollywood smile and told his male lover he was off to meet a girl. The guy who waited for the Doctor for over a hundred years. That's the Jack I love and no amount of fangirl girl schmoop (even when perpetrated by Chibnall and Moran) can change who he is.
From the minute he said "As the philosopher Jagger tells us-'You Can't Always Get What You Want'" I have adored this drug-addicted bastard, for his wit, his brilliance, his viciousness, his pain, his passion (especially for Wilson). While the writers, including the much-vaunted St. Doris have attempted to deny the truth of House's deep seated pain, he remains, mostly thanks to Hugh Laurie, my favorite male character ever. I've bitched and moaned, but as long as there's one or two great lines, a few moments of pained eye-sex and piano-gasms, I'll probably string along to the extremely bitter end.
