Day 23-Most annoying character
First of all, it's not who you might think, and I'll tell you why. Ianto Jones is such a badly written, badly acted, repulsive, loathsome piece of puke, who came so very close to destroying the the whole show and especially the wonderfulness of Jack Harkness, that to grace him with a description as benign as "annoying" is to do him an undeserved kindness.
Therefore, the "award" goes jointly to the Newbies of House MD: Kutner, Taub and 13, as well as the writers who created them, and any member of the production or employee of Fox television who signed off on the abysmal 4th season "Survivor" game arc, with no love or forgiveness for the actors in question.
Even if you feel the need to defend their existence by saying that the original fellows had to move on (which canon itself has then contradicted) I will come back and say "KIDS!" In other words, House and Wilson could have interviewed a few well-written candidates for the job, who would have been interesting from the get-go rather than putting us throw the b.s. of Season 4, and who we could have gotten to know on their own terms rather than having large chunks of MYSTERY and DRAH-MA thrown at us with no smoothness or subtlety whatsoever.
In the two season's since the game, none of them have done anything to redeem themselves or justify their existence in my eyes. Every moment that any of them is onscreen, especially Taub or 13's "serious" stories, is like an angry itch under my skin. I don't care about Taub's marriage. I don't care about 13's Huntington's and I didn't care about whatever it was I was supposed to give a damn about for Kutner.
I want them off. Now. Forever. If they've burned their bridges with Jennifer Morrison (BIG MISTAKE) get one new good character...(Paging Petra Gilmar!!!) let her integrate slowly, and NOT have a big, dramatic SECRET any time soon.
As for the actors, Kal Penn is ok with me as a person for his politics, but his acting as Kutner was hopeless. My feeling is that Peter Jacobsen is in over his head. Yes for the occasional snarky one-liner, but the minute he's forced to play the dramatic stuff with Mrs. Passive Aggressive whiner, it's a massive let-down. As for Olivia...sorry. Just no. Pretty girl. End of story.
On their worst day, Jennifer, Omar and Jesse did better work than any of these folks,.
So it's the actors, it's the writing, it's the characters, it's the method of introduction, all ending up with one conclusion: THE NEWBIES SUCK!!! (And annoy the shit out of me.)
