Music Meme-Better late than never.

Most of you have probably done this already since it was quite awhile ago that the meme starting circulating on my F-list, but if you haven’t or want to do it again:

Ask in the comments and I will give you a letter. Then post your top ten songs beginning with that letter.

This is so embarrassing. I got the letter B from zekkas back on March 3, 2007. I didn’t want to do it without the links and that took awhile for my technodork self to get together.

1.Born To Run-Frankie Goes To Hollywood

I'm from New Jersey (kind of) and I know it's total sacrilige, but you’ve got to hear this version. Jet-propelled, adrenaline-rush, 1980’s synth/rock insanity. When I’m actually out running, this is the one I hope is going to come up on my iPod shuffle.

2.Back For Good-Take That

Best boy band ballad ever.

Baby, I Need Your Lovin’-Johnny Rivers

This is one is just so much fun to sing. Either the Four Tops or the Johnny Rivers version, but I’m giving you this one because I’ve had a crush on Johnny ever since I saw him at an oldies concert at Concord Pavillion many years ago. Bluest eyes I’ve ever seen and he kicked serious ass, especially playing the opening chords of “Secret Agent Man”. I’m not sure if he’s still touring, but I would absolutely love to see him again.

4.A Boy From Nowhere-Tom Jones

Per my good friends at Wicki:
Matador is the title of a 1991 musical by Mike Leander and Edward Seago, which tells the story of the rise and fall of a fictional matador, loosely based on Manuel Benitez, El Cordobes. The show featured stunning choreography in traditional Flamenco style. Several dancers were cast directly from Spain, making their West End debuts. The bulls for the fighting sequences were performed by a phalanx of black-clad dancers, moving as one.
The work began life in 1987 as a concept album, starring Tom Jones. Jones was keen to play the lead on stage, and gave up his Las Vegas cabaret shows to return to the UK for that purpose. The musical was initially unable to attract the financial backing required, but Jones did get his first UK top ten hit after a fifteen-year dry spell, with his single , A Boy From Nowhere, lifted from the Matador concept album.

So big. So operatic. So over-the-fucking-top!!! So TOM JONES!!!

5.Build Me Up Buttercup- The Foundations

Perfect for Karaoke. Everybody WILL start singing along. One of those weird songs that sounds happy unless you actually listen to the lyrics, in which case…not so much.

6. Bonaparte’s Retreat-Kay Starr

A song I fell in love with when I was a kid listening to WNEW-AM 1130 in New York. Great horns. Kay totally rocks. One of the great female vocalists of the “post big-band/pre-rock” era.

6. Beyond The Sea-Bobby Darin

I’ve been a Bobby Darin fan as long as I can remember. Maybe even before Frank, Dean, Sammy etc. Probably the minute I heard the first note of “Mack The Knife.” This is almost equally transcendent. – Live Version

Please note: If I ever got a functioning time machine, one of the things I’d use it for would be to see Bobby Darin’s nightclub show circa 1961 or 1962.

8.Be In My Heart-Cliff Richard

I had to have a Sir Cliff song in here somewhere.

When Cliff sings gospel, I believe it, even though I’m not currently a believer in much of anything. I’m still looking though and I think this song expresses that as well.

One of his 80’s pop/gospel numbers with some beautiful harmony, especially at the end. Just so heartfelt! (I LOVE YOU CLIFF!!!)

9. Brandy (You’re A Fine Girl) – Looking Glass
Great 70’s one-hit wonder.

10. Buenos Dias Budweiser

If you’ve never heard of the Austin Lounge Lizards, start hearing of them now. Every song is brilliant, satirical and hysterical.
