Here's the list
16. Do you write romantic relationships? How do you do with those, and how “far” are you willing to go in your writing? ;),
I write relationships. Whether they're "romantic" is in the eyes of the beholder. Generally no fluff, no schmoop. People may love each other, but mostly they have sex, exchange witty banter and find ways to hurt each other.
Most of the relationships tend to feature one character being more "in love" than the other, although that position may change in the course of the story.
This applies to the original fic as well. Most of my smart funny heroines have a nice guy who loves them while they tend to fixate and obsess about men who are unattainable, although since the original fic is more Sue-ish, they sometimes do get to have sex with the unattainable men (and even women) but that doesn't mean the unattainable men love them.
Sorry, I just don't find "equal" relationships very interesting from a writing point of view. I love House/Wilson because of the angst. The last thing I want is a "happy ending" either in fanfic or canon. I used to be able to tolerate "first time" stories where the angst was in the build up and the "happy ending" was the acknowledgement of their feelings for each other and the ensuing sex. I think canon has gone a long way to show us that either one of them saying "I love you" would be the farthest thing from a happy ending.
I consider myself a pretty good smutstress, about a B+ if I were grading.
I'd like to say that the more I read and write fanfic smut, the harder it gets, because I get more and more sensitive to the smut cliches and purple prose that sounded hot the first 100 times I read it and that I'm now loathe to have anywhere near my own fic. And you know what? There's a reason we all use the same cliches. It's really hard to come up with new ways to describe the same old body parts doing the same old things, but that's no excuse. I'm a writer, it's my job to come up with something. (You too, budding fanfic smut writers.)
Suffice to say that any fic with a detailed sex scene is something I will NOT post without extensive beta because I don't trust myself and the smut cliche demon is a pernicious bastard who will type breath hitching and throbbing cocks into fic while I'm not paying attention.
